Aged 16-19 and want to know where a career in theatre could take you? How Theatre Works is our unique training and development programme for young creatives who want to explore working life in the theatre industry.
Taking the first steps
Whether you’re interested in performing, working behind the scenes or you’re still figuring it all out, this is your chance to find out what’s possible with Scotland’s largest theatre organisation.
Across the course, you’ll meet theatre professionals, get hands-on experience and discover how productions come together. Along the way, you’ll build new skills, gain insider knowledge and make connections that could help shape your future pathway.
Whether you’re coming towards the end of a school journey, in further education, or just looking to build your creative experience, How Theatre Works will help you navigate the theatre industry and take your next steps with confidence.
A look behind the scenes
Over the eight workshops that make up How Theatre Works, you’ll get to explore different theatre careers and meet the people who bring shows to life, you’ll also:
- Get to see four incredible shows at our theatres
- Explore life behind the scenes on a backstage tour
- Receive training in audition and/or interview skills, to support your journey beyond the course
- Have access to exclusive opportunities through our Creative Pathways programme
New skills and a new qualification
This year, for the first time ever, we’re delighted that your participation on the course will work towards a nationally recognised Arts Award (Bronze or Silver Level).
If you choose to continue to Silver Arts Award, you’ll also take part in our unique 4 day co-creation residency. This is your chance to gain real work experience by being involved in the theatre making process. As a group, you’ll work alongside professional artists, create a brand-new performance piece, and experience what it’s like to be part of a creative team.
Our aim is that by the end of How Theatre Works, you’ll have new skills, new understanding, a digital portfolio and an Arts Award qualification.
