The Scottish Government has awarded an additional £2.5 million to the King’s Theatre redevelopment, which means the main construction work is now fully funded.
This is a huge milestone for a theatre that means so much to Edinburgh. After years of planning, fundraising and hard work, we are firmly on the path to reopening the King’s in summer 2026.
With the funding for the construction work now in place, we’ll keep fundraising to make sure the theatre is fully equipped, beautifully finished, and ready to shine when the curtain rises again.
Our Chief Executive Fiona Gibson, shared just how special this moment is:
“This funding from the Scottish Government comes at a hugely significant moment for the King’s Theatre and for everyone who has worked so hard to bring this project to life. We are incredibly grateful for their support, and for the backing of the many people who have believed in this project, contributed and championed it every step of the way. The King’s holds a special place in the hearts of Edinburgh audiences, and being able to bring it back to life feels truly special. We cannot wait to open the doors and share the renewed and reimagined King’s with the city once again.”
Help us add the finishing touches
This latest funding closes the gap for the main building work, but there’s still more to do.
Our fundraising continues to help restore theatre’s beautiful Edwardian interior and make sure every space is ready to welcome audiences, artists and communities back through its doors.
If you’d like to be part of the King’s future, we’d love to have you with us.
