There’s a real sense of momentum around the King’s redevelopment project, with our first shows on sale and dramatic transformations across the entire site. Here are a few highlights from the past few months.
Our Welcoming New Café
The new café extension continues to move forward. The external cafe wall is nearly complete and the roof installation is well underway, providing a real sense of how the finished space will look and feel.
Over the coming months, the team will turn their attention to the café’s interior, bringing to life a welcoming space for the local community to enjoy. We can almost taste the coffee already!
A Big Step Forward
One of the most dramatic transformations inside the venue! Two new public staircases leading to all floors, including the new Creative Engagement Studio, are now fully in place, in a rich peacock blue to match the stained glass door panels.
Upper Circle Bar
The Upper Circle Bar has enjoyed a remarkable evolution since the start of the project. The space now boasts beautiful new timber flooring and glass screens and the construction of the bar itself is now underway. Anyone recognise this counter? You may have leant on it in the old Upper Circle Bar. The counter has been completely refurbished ready to welcome you for your favourite drink before and after shows.…
A Familiar Sight Returns
The redevelopment is entering an especially exciting phase as the cleaning of the stonework on the front is nearly finished, allowing the removal of the building front scaffolding in early January.
Early in 2026, the front of the theatre will be cleared to allow the pavement levelling works to begin. This will give local residents their first clear, unobstructed view of the front of the King’s in quite some time. It's a view we're all looking forward to.
Support the King's Future
Help us keep the curtain up for generations to come. The King’s transformation will preserve the theatre’s unique heritage, modernise its spaces, and safeguard vital cultural skills.
