Following the fantastic success of the Christmas care home tour over the last three years — for the first time ever — our fabulous production 'Jack In The Box' returned for a summer care home tour.
Jack in the Box is a specially crafted dementia friendly performance created by and performed by singer Michelle Burke and pianist James Ross. The story is set aboard a train and unfolds as a playful and heart-warming tale filled with humour and lively music. Developed in close collaboration with our dementia-friendly focus group and a local day centre, the show is thoughtfully adapted to include person-centred sensory interactions, vintage puppetry, and familiar music, encouraging the audience to reminisce.
A Glimpse Of Jack In The Box

Our Summer Care Homes Tour began on the 8 May and ran until the 31 May, returning to many of the care homes who have welcomed us in the last three years. Excitingly, we extended the tour to seven new venues including Fauldhouse in West Lothian and Midlothian Community Hospital. Overall, we reached a total of 18 care homes and day centres throughout Edinburgh and the Lothians.
The tour ended at the Festival Theatre with two special performances for people living with dementia who regularly participate in our workshops and activities.
The feedback we had was phenomenal, with many carers noting how residents who would typically be unresponsive or quiet, were humming and singing along at the performances. The performers engaged and interacted with individuals; getting to know their names and making them all feel included.
"What you’ve done here taking the time to speak to people is absolutely amazing. You should all be very proud"Care Home Resident, Murrayfield House Care Home
“I’ve never seen a show like that, so interactive!”Carer, West Lothian Brain Health and Dementia Resource Centre
