Our Venues for Families

A family visit is about more than just the show. Making sure you and your family feel welcome and have everything you need is a top priority for us.

Tickets for babies

Babies and children of all ages are welcome at our children’s shows. A limited number of free babes-in-arms tickets are available for some children’s and family shows, which are not bookable online. These tickets are available to babies aged 12 months and under; please note they do not provide an additional seat. Babes-in-arms tickets are not included within a Group total. For example, if you are buying 7 adult tickets and a babes-in-arms ticket, this does not qualify as a Group booking. Please remember that babes-in-arms tickets are not available for all shows; please give us call us to check.

Tickets for children

All children over 4 must have a ticket to enter our auditoriums. We appreciate that some children may prefer to sit on a parent or carer’s lap for the show. However, we are subject to strict licensing regulations in relation to the number of people that are allowed in our venues at any one time. Every person must therefore have a ticket regardless of age.

Age guidance

Where possible, we indicate any age restrictions on our website and in our printed brochure. If you are unsure about the age guidance for a show, please call box office on 0131 529 6000.

In the interests of all audience members, babies and children under 4 years old are not permitted in our auditoriums for shows whose main audience is not children. Some of our shows are less appropriate for young children due to their content or duration. If children disrupt other audience members during a show, you may be invited to take a break from the auditorium before returning to your seats.

Booster seats

The Festival and King’s Theatre have a limited supply of booster seats available. Please check availability with a member of staff. Please note that booster seats are not available at The Studio.

The Festival Theatre has full baby changing facilities within the accessible toilets located on levels one and two. The King’s Theatre has baby changing facilities within the accessible toilets located beside the box office and at the back of the stalls. The Studio Theatre has baby changing facilities within the accessible toilet located on level 2. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to ask a member of staff.

Buggies and Pushchairs

The Festival Theatre has a storage area for buggies and pushchairs on ground level, please ask at the cloak room. The King’s Theatre has limited storage for buggies on ground level. Please ask a member of staff who will be happy to help. The Studio on Potterrow is fully accessible by lift, but has limited storage space for buggies.

Cafe for Families

The Festival Theatre Café is located on the ground floor, with level access throughout. On evenings when there’s no performance, the café closes at 5pm with last food orders at 4pm. The café is open late when there’s a show on. With a wide range of homemade and locally-sourced products, the Festival Theatre Café has many child-friendly menu items available. We’re happy to serve child size portions and provide high chairs.
