Capital Theatres is proud to join REWRITES, the touring platform for bold new musicals, alongside Lowry, Birmingham Hippodrome, Mayflower Southampton and Norwich Theatre.
“Musical comedies aren’t written; they’re rewritten.”
Stephen Sondheim
REWRITES champions bold new musicals and helps ambitious new work test, refine and grow in front of audiences across the country. The intiative plays an important role in recognising touring as a crucial stage in a show’s development.
Since Lowry launched the programme in 2017, musicals featured in REWRITES include: Jeezus! By Sergio Antonio Maggiolo, Ballad Lines by Finn Anderson and Tania Azevedo, Half Man Half Bull by Wright & Grainger (pictured), Chosen by Taiya Yoshida & Dominic Varney, Nel’s Place by Sheep Soup, No Miracles Here by The Letter Room, A Super Happy Story (About Feeling Sad) by Jon Brittain and Matthew Floyd Jones (Kathy & Stella) and Snowflake by Lewis Cornay.
The award-winning West End and Broadway musical Operation Mincemeat started out at a scratch event as part of REWRITES and comes to the King’s Theatre in November 2026.
As a partner, Capital Theatres will offer:
- Performance opportunities and a fee for participating shows

We can’t wait to be help of this brilliant intiative bringing the next generation of new musicals to Edinburgh audiences and beyond.
