Celebrating the legacy of The Great Lafayette with a brand new work-in progress musical.
At Capital Theatres, we are proud to help nurture and develop the next generation of Scottish musicals through our vibrant Artist Support programme and thrilled to host and support this brand new work-in-progress Lafayette: A New Musical at the Studio Theatre on 9 May 2026.
The show is inspired by the life and legend of acclaimed illusionist Sigmund Neuberger, better known as The Great Lafayette. Blending bold storytelling with breathtaking moments of illusion and a soaring original score, Lafayette explores the cost of greatness, wrestling with the type of legacy we leave behind by asking what one sacrifices to become unforgettable. Staging Lafayette on the anniversary of his untimely death (9th May 1911) while performing one of his most famous illusions at what is now the Festival Theatre, feels especially poignant.
The show is written by John Binnie (A Toast Fae the Lassies), with music and lyrics by Richard Ferguson (The Sunshine Ghost), and illusion and puppetry design by Fergus Dunnet (Hercules the Bear).
Lafayette: A New Musical will offer audiences an insight into the early stages of an exciting new musical, and into the extraordinary life and legacy of The Great Lafayette.
