Access to the front of the theatre is via one step with a handrail or via pavement ramp. Level access is also available through the side entrace to the Cafe.

Wheelchair users
The front of the building is accessible via Leven St with levelled access or by three steps with a handrail. Our customer services team will be happy to assist on arrival.

Arriving by car
The theatre is located on a busy main road and as such there is limited space for drop offs and parking. While there are no designated Blue Badge spaces on Leven Street, single yellow lines and Pay & Display bays are available on nearby side streets in the Tollcross area.

Unlike the Festival Theatre there is no on-site parking at the King’s Theatre, 3rd party websites like Parkopedia can you help you locate the nearest car park for your visit.

Lifts
There are two public lifts at the King’s Theatre, all levels and bars are accessible by lift. The building has two lifts, both equipped with voice synthesisers for additional support.

The Box Office is located on the Tarvitt Street corner of the building, there is level access through the main entrance and also via the cafe. If you require assistance please make yourself aware to a member of staff and we’ll be happy to assist.

If you have any specific seating requirements please let the box office know when you book your tickets and we’ll be very happy to assist. 

At the King’s Theatre, all seats are minimum of 51cm wide.

Stalls
Seats range from 51cm to 56cm wide. There are 12 wider seats at 60cm wide bookable at the ends of Row K and Row L.

Dress Circle
Seats range from 53cm to 56cm wide.

Upper Circle
Seat range from 51 to 52cm wide.

The King’s Theatre has 10 spaces in total designated for wheel chair users. 2 spaces in the Dress Circle and 8 spaces in the Stalls, with adjacent seats for companions.

There are 40 seats with transferable arms available on the end of rows from the mid to rear stalls for easy transfer from a wheelchair. The rest of the auditorium seats have arm rests that do not move.

The King’s Theatre has a Auracast system available which uses bluetooth signals to stream audio. This system can be used from any seat in the theatre. Please speak to a member of staff on arrival for a Auracast Device, or Auracast Loop.

Please note that at some performances, these devices will be in high demand and we will do all we can to accommodate your needs.

Some smartphones and hearing aids can also connect to the system natively. Please check your device manual to see if your personal device is compatible.

There are unisex accessible toilets on all levels of the King’s Theatre – all have emergency call buttons. The King’s Theatre has a Changing Places facility. 

If you need any help locating toilets please do not hesitate to ask anyone wearing a black Capital Theatres t-shirt. 

Assistance dogs are most welcome at our venues. We will be pleased to look after them during the performance if required. We also provide water bowls.

We are in the process of creating a new visual guide for the venue, this will be available to download very soon.

Our Front of House staff will be happy to help those with mobility issues order a taxi using their mobile device after the performance.

We know that visiting somewhere new can sometimes feel daunting. If it would help, you are welcome to come and look around the theatre before your event.

A member of our team will walk you through the spaces you’ll use on the day, from the foyer and bars to the auditorium, toilets and quiet areas. It’s a chance to see the building, ask questions and feel more at ease ahead of your visit.

In conjunction with the Audio Description performances, we also offer Touch Tours beforehand such that you can touch various elements of the set, props and costumes, to further contextualise the performance.

We generally present sign language interpreted performances on Saturday matinees of week long shows, with the interpreter standing at the front of the stage such that deaf or hard of hearing audience members can follow the spoken narrative alongside the visual elements of the performance.

Seats in the stalls generally provide the best view of the BSL interpreter, and box office can advise of this further in your booking process.

Captioned performances generally take place on Thursday evenings of week long shows and they work similarly to subtitles on a film, with caption screens on either side of the stage with the text appearing as its being spoken by the performers.

This function aids deaf or hard of hearing audience members to follow the the spoken narrative alongside the visual elements of the performance.

Some of our key associate companies including Scottish Ballet, Scottish Opera and the annual Pantomime create relaxed performances of their large scale productions.

These performances are designed to make you feel welcome, relaxed and well-supported, we’ll have lots of trained staff on hand to help with any access needs.

Audience members can feel free to make noise and move around the auditorium, we’ll keep the lights on, but dimmed to reduce anxiety, and we’ll provide break out spaces with a live stream of the show so that if people feel the need to leave the auditorium they won’t miss the action.
