Join us for the latest peek into the King's Theatre redevelopment. See how our hard work is continuing with major updates to the new café, fly tower, Creative Engagement studio and stairways.
New King's Café
We've made lots of progress in the last few months on the new café and its extension. The external groundworks are now complete, with freshly poured concrete slabs enclosing the basement toilets and kitchen and providing the foundation for the new café and bars. With these slabs in place, you'll be able to see the outline of the new space - an exciting glimpse of what's sure to become your new favourite coffee spot.

Electricity, Fly Tower and a New Stage
Lights up! The galleries are complete and the old switch room is a thing of the past. We've successfully transferred the King's electricity to a smaller, more efficient switch room, creating additional space and functionality within the theatre. Following the pouring of a new concrete floor, we're nearing completion on the stage basement block walls which will allow the formation of a new flat stage. The old stage rigging has also been removed and a new cabling counterweight flying system installation is underway.

Creative Engagement Studio
A fresh lick of paint and recycled wood ceiling acoustic cladding gives you a real feel of how the finished Creative Engagement space will look. Meanwhile floor screeding, plumbing, ventilation, and electrical installations are progressing steadily bringing the Creative Engagement Studio closer to its finished form and ready for you to get involved.

Stairwells and Plant Room
The dry lining is now complete in Stair 5 and is well underway on Stair 3. Once complete, decorators and tilers will move in to finish the stairwells - but we're getting a step ahead of ourselves here, keep your eyes peeled for more stair updates in the near future. The plant room has also been decorated, with the installation of the internal follow-spot glazing soon to begin. Very soon, the longstanding internal scaffolding in the auditorium will bow out, allowing the auditorium space to breathe again.
