Manipulate Festival 2024

Ruins

Ruins is a highly visual dance performance that explores how we can find a way through pain, damage, and isolation, both personally and globally, by focusing on being open to each other, our natural environment and co-evolving with other living entities.

Inspired by Donna Haraway’s eco-feminist writing Staying With the Trouble, Making Kin in the Chthulucene; the performance explores rupture, adaptation, and togetherness across species. In the midst of enduring ecological harms and navigating emotional turmoil we can reclaim new ways of being that allow us not only to live in ruins but to live in ruins well together.

Set inside a mesmerizing video cube three critters shapeshift, squirm and burrow through the undergrowth of their souls. Co-created with movement artists Philip Alexander, Rita Hu and Suzie Cunningham and a hypnotic soundscape from musician Cucina Povera.

Presented as part of Manipulate Festival 2024, running from 1–11 February at venues across Edinburgh.

*Ticket price includes a contribution to the theatre development fund which pays for the restoration and upkeep of our theatres. A £1.50 handling charge will be added if you require postage for your tickets.
