Glasgow's acclaimed Company of Wolves present an earth-shattering solo retelling of the myth of Dionysos: an epic of rejection, vengeance and rebirth told through story, dance and ancient song.
An outcast god. A powerless king. A mother who kills her only son.
Written and performed by Ewan Downie, The Bacchae blurs the lines between binaries: human and animal, male and female, victim and perpetrator, and takes us on a transformative journey from repression and denial to renewal and release. A hymn of rebirth for our shattered selves.

Join Company of Wolves for a Q&A to discuss the ideas and material behind THE BACCHAE, and the making process of the show. The conversation will be with members of THE BACCHAE creative team, including writer and performer Ewan Downie, and our academic collaborator, Dr Michael Carroll from the Classics department of the University of St Andrews.
Making Together Workshop | Tue 10 Mar
This hands-on workshop introduces Company of Wolves’ unique approach to collaborative devising. We’ll explore making messy performance material and sharing it with each other: how to test ideas by doing, how to inspire and be inspired, how to say yes and when to say no. Expect the strange, the beautiful, the absurd and the profound — sometimes all at the same time!
This workshop is free of charge for show ticket holders. A promo code will be emailed to existing bookers which will enable you to book.
