An exciting journey begins...
We are beyond thrilled to share this first update with you on the King’s Future
Thanks to your support, and that of so many generous people who love the King’s, the redevelopment began in earnest in February 2023. This quarterly update aims to keep you abreast of what your incredible generosity is allowing us to achieve.
In just 10 weeks, we have removed the seating in the auditorium to store safely while the works take place, and covered over the original marble floors and staircase. The fragile interiors are also being protected, including John Bryne’s very special ceiling dome painting, All the World’s a Stage. In the stage house, the iron curtain has been removed and we are now taking up the raked stage itself.
For anyone passing the King’s you will see that the fire stairs between the former box office entrance and Stage Door entrance have been removed, as has the front canopy over the main foyer entrance. This has left the ‘Grand Old Lady of Leven Street’ looking a little bare, but thankfully her modesty is protected by the hoardings around the site.
This is a complex project with lots going on and we will regularly update this page so do check back in every few weeks. In the meantime, find out more about the project team and the architect or scroll through some of the photos of the site.
