What is a Youth Advisory Board?

Our Youth Advisory Board helps Capital Theatres become a more relevant and exciting place for young people to connect with. Over the course of the year you will have the opportunity to influence a range of different areas including how we talk to young people, the kinds of activities we offer, how our organisation responds to issues young people care about and help shape our plans for the future.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for 4 young people aged 16-25 who live or study in Edinburgh and the Lothians to join our YAB.

When does the Youth Advisory Board meet?

We meet on the last Thursday of each month from 5pm – 7pm at the Festival Theatre, Edinburgh. There may be some optional activities outside this time such as seeing shows in the theatre, reporting at Board meetings, or representing the Youth Advisory Board at external events. We will cover travel expenses and other costs where they arise.

What is the time commitment?

We ask members to commit to being part of the Youth Advisory Board for 12 months and to try to attend every meeting, though we understand there may be times (eg. exam periods or holidays) where this is more difficult.

Do I have to be involved in theatre?

No. We’re looking for a diverse range of people with different interests, perspectives, and backgrounds to take part. If you are interested in making change happen and have something to say, we want to hear from you.

What if there are barriers to me taking part?

We are committed to making our work as inclusive and accessible as possible. If you have a disability, caring responsibility or other issue that might make it difficult to take part, please get in touch and we will talk it through with you before you apply.
