In Our Yard

We’re back for the summer months with a whole programme of arts activities for children and families taking place ‘In Our Yard’ at the Festival Theatre

Across June, July and August we are delighted to announce that we are transforming our courtyard at the Festival Theatre to become an outdoor family friendly space. This summer programme will explore art, music and dance in the open air! We will be kicking off with Wee Creatives for 2-5 year olds on Friday mornings, running a ‘drop off’ arts club called After Zooms for 6-10 year olds on Friday afternoons and on Saturdays we are bringing back our family takeovers!

All our sessions are interactive but designed with your safety in mind. Please note, you will be contacted directly after booking with detailed safety guidance and further info about the event.  We cant wait to welcome you back, so why not book a place and come on down to our yard for some creative play.

Who is it for?

Wee Creatives

Requirements: Wee Creatives must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the session.

This summer we are delighted to be returning with Wee Creatives! Live and in person, delivered in our newly transformed courtyard space. Across June, July and August there will be six sessions providing creative outdoor play for 2–5 year-olds and their adults. Expect finger painting, music making and creative crafts, not forgetting our super snack break. All materials will be provided (one pack per household) and a snack/drink for your Wee Creative is included in the ticket price.

We will be going ahead in most weathers so please remember to wear a coat, to wear a mask (adults) and bring something waterproof to sit on.

After Zooms

Age Range: 6-10 year olds

Time: Fridays - 1:30-3pm

Requirements: this is a drop-off session. Children do not require the presence of an adult to participate but must be dropped off and collected directly from the workshop.

We have missed bringing you programmes such as ‘Play Days’ through out the past year. But with restrictions easing we are delighted to say that ‘After Zooms’ a re-invention of our Plays Days is coming to you across six sessions In Our Yard this summer.

After Zooms is designed for 6-10 year olds who want to try their hand at mural making, graffiti, song writing and street dance. Each week we will try something new, with session lead by professional engagement artists and materials, a drink and snack provided by Capital Theatres.

Family Takeovers

Age Range: Families

Time: Saturdays - 11:30-1:30pm

Requirements: Open to families with a range of ages. Please note all activity will be designed for children 2+. Babies are welcome to come but may not benefit fully from the creative activity.

What better way to spend a summer Saturday than making some creative mess in our courtyard! Family takeovers are back with two hour sessions delivered outdoors by professional artist, providing an opportunity for families to make, create and play together. Tickets can be booked as household bubbles and you will be provided will all materials you need on the day.

Please note, we intended to go ahead in most weather and will notify bookers early on the morning of if there is a cancellation due to change in Scot Gov restrictions or unsafe weather. All sessions will take place in our yard and whilst cushions/beanbags will be provided in each square we encourage you to wear a coat and bring a blanket to sit on if it looks wet.
