We are thrilled to be able to offer this unique opportunity for the third time, working in partnership with Edinburgh College supported by Skills Development Scotland, thanks to funding from private philanthropy.  

Since launching Modern Technical Apprenticeships in October 2023, we have enjoyed great success with this in-demand programme which aims to address the industry-wide skills gap and future-proof technical theatre skills. 

During this unique training experience, our apprentices learn the art of ‘flying’- the operation of a traditional theatrical rigging system which lifts scenery to and from the stage. This is a skillset that is typically difficult to gain experience in, despite being in high demand within the industry. The apprenticeship offers hands-on training in a live theatre setting and an SCQF Level 7 Diploma in Technical Theatre and Production Operations qualification.  

Growing up, our new apprentice Bryony was heavily involved in amateur theatre and operatics and developed a love for the behind-the-scenes magic, which has remained with her to this day. Since moving to Edinburgh in 2023 and working her first season with the Fringe Society, she has built a full-time career in events. She continues to work for the Fringe each year, while also working on varied and exciting events nationwide.
