Open Floor is the scratch night where theatremakers and theatre companies from Edinburgh and beyond can test brand-new ideas in front of a live audience for the first time.
New work starts here
From comedy to politics, movement to musicals, we’re opening the floor to work at the earliest stage of development so you, the audience, can help the artists explore what works onstage.
This time we’re working with South Asian Artists in Scotland to put a special focus on South Asian artists and creatives based in Scotland – including those with South Asian heritage.
About our partners: South Asian Artists in Scotland is a newly established volunteer collective led by Niloo-Far Khan and Kal Sabir, created as a labour of love to support connection, collaboration, and creativity among South Asian artists nationwide. Find out more.

Nevil Jose: Thiragal – The Inherited Silence
Nevil is a movement practitioner from India, based in Scotland since 2019. Thiragal, meaning waves in Malayalam, reflects the emotional currents that rise and fall within men who are taught to remain silent. The work invites reflection on masculinity, cultural inheritance, and mental health, while creating space for men from culturally restrictive backgrounds to acknowledge vulnerability, reclaim emotional expression, and move toward healing.
Thistle-Shapla Cultural Group: An Indecisive Life
Thistle-Shapla Cultural Group was established on 26 March 2011 in Edinburgh by Bangladeshi restaurant workers united by a passion for theatre and cultural expression. An Indecisive Life is a community-led theatre production tracing one Bangladeshi man’s journey to Britain in search of opportunity.
Sara Kemal: Land and Body
Sara Kemal is a dance artist with an expansive practice spanning choreography, performance, and community-focused work. Land and Body is an exploration of dance as a meeting point between personal identity, feeling, and place. The work is a joyful and curious articulation of different landscapes as felt and remembered through the body, bringing focus to texture, weather, rhythm, and change. A space to share in the joy of dancing, and of being outside.
Lubna Kerr: Identity Crisis
Lubna Kerr is a writer, performer and producer passionate about diversity, equality, inclusion and accessibility.
Grew up in Glasgow, married a Scotsman, studied in Cardiff, live in Edinburgh. With the rise of far right politics, there is a real fear from the global majority that they will be repatriated. Where will I go back to? Glasgow? Now newly single. Who will I date? A Pakistani?
