A City of Edinburgh Council Civic Honour for panto legends Grant Stott and Allan Stewart
Congratulations, Grant and Allan – and thank you for the laughter, the legacy, and the love you bring to the stage.
On Friday 6 June 2025, a star returned to the King’s Theatre – not for another performance – but for a heartfelt moment of recognition. Edinburgh’s own Grant Stott was presented with a Congratulatory Motion from the City of Edinburgh Council by Councillor Marie-Clair Munro, honouring both him and Allan Stewart (who were nominated for their outstanding contributions to the arts in the city).
This special civic tribute follows the announcement of Lifetime Achievement Awards for Allan and Grant from the Scottish Music Hall and Variety Theatre Society. It is a fitting acknowledgment of their decades-long dedication to Edinburgh’s cultural life — particularly their legendary roles in our very own King’s Theatre pantomime, which has become an institution in its own right. The motion, which was passed unanimously by the Council, celebrates their impact on generations of audiences and their unwavering commitment to bringing laughter and joy to the stage.
All of us at Capital Theatres are proud to celebrate this well-deserved honour and look forward to many more magical moments ahead. The King’s Theatre is currently closed for a major redevelopment which will see the building transformed into a modern, accessible venue for generations to come.
