Developing meaningful partnerships that enhance our impact across the theatre sector
Supporting theatre’s future
We are committed to presenting exciting work that audiences will love, while also supporting the theatre sector to create an environment where individual artists and producers alike can thrive for the long term.
We aim to:
- Contribute to the long-term health of the theatre sector through impactful collaboration and partnerships.
- Be a vocal, visible advocate for the Scottish theatre sector and its audiences.
- Strategically curate our programme so our audiences are inspired by high quality work across our theatres.
- Ensure that our programming supports the long-term sustainability of Capital Theatres.
- Contribute to the flow of new work for audiences in our venues and beyond.
- Collaborate with participants, audiences, artists and employees so they feel their creative potential is recognised and nurtured.
- Focus on community programmes that deliver increased wellbeing and reduced social isolation.
- Collaborate on the development of new initiatives and projects.
Our current programmes include Open@TheStudio, the Wee Ones Winter Commissions and the Musicals Commissioning Hub.
2025 marked the start of an important new relationship with Barrowland Ballet, who became our first associate company. This mutually beneficial relationship, building on the success of 2022’s award-winning co-production The Gift, recognises our shared ambition to extend access to dance for more people. Capital Theatres will provide an Edinburgh home for Barrowland Ballet and help the company as it explores new artistic approaches. In turn, Barrowland Ballet supports our aim to present inclusive dance work for more audiences, including relaxed performances and productions tailored for young people with complex needs.
