What is a Youth Advisory Board?

Our Youth Advisory Board helps Capital Theatres become a more relevant and exciting place for young people. Through involvement with the board, you will have the opportunity to influence how we talk to young people, the kinds of activities we offer and how we respond to issues young people care about, as well as helping to shape our plans more broadly for the future. You will get to make change happen, get an inside look at how the theatre industry works and open doors for other young people.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for 5 young people aged 16-25 who live or study in Edinburgh and the Lothians to join our YAB.

When does the Youth Advisory Board meet?

We meet on the last Thursday of each month from 5pm – 7pm at the Festival Theatre, Edinburgh. There may be some optional activities outside this time, such as seeing shows, reporting at Board meetings or representing the Youth Advisory Board at external events. We will cover travel expenses and other costs where they arise.

What is the time commitment?

We ask members to commit to being part of the Youth Advisory Board for 12 months and to try to attend every meeting, although we understand there may be times (e.g. Exam periods, holidays etc.) where this is more difficult.

Do I have to be involved in theatre?

No. We’re looking for a diverse range of people with different interests, perspectives and backgrounds. If you’re interested in making change happen and have something to say, we want to hear from you.

What if there are barriers to me taking part?

We are committed to making our work as inclusive and accessible as possible. If you have a disability, caring responsibility or other issue that might make it difficult to part, please get in touch and we will talk it through with you before you apply.
