Scottish Opera: Tosca

1940s' Rome, in the shadow of Mussolini's tyrannical rule...

Floria Tosca – a smart and passionate woman – attempts to free her lover from the clutches of Baron Scarpia, the lecherous, power-mad Chief of Police. As the stakes get higher she is faced with an impossible choice – will her hopes be crushed or can love win out?

Beautiful arias and rousing musical moments pepper Puccini's score, bringing Tosca's emotional extremes into sharp relief. Director Anthony Besch's shadowy setting further heightens the drama while Peter Rice's sumptuous designs provide a spectacular backdrop.

Full of crackling melodrama that grabs from the get-go, Tosca is a must-see for both newcomers and aficionados alike.

The must-see internationally renowned cast includes award-winning soprano Natalya Romaniw (Eugene Onegin 2018), tenor Gwyn Hughes Jones (Il trovatore 2015) and baritone Roland Wood (Pelléas & Mélisande 2017). Music Director Stuart Stratford conducts.

Revival of the 1980 production. Supported by The Scottish Opera Syndicate. Sung in Italian with English supertitles.
