An Evening with Michael Palin on North Korea
Join Michael Palin, Monty Python stalwart and intrepid globetrotter, for a glimpse of life inside the notoriously secretive Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, a land without internet or phone signal, where the countryside still operates as a peasant economy but where the cities have gleaming skyscrapers and luxurious underground train stations.
In this illustrated talk, Michael Palin will give the inside story of his acclaimed Channel 5 documentary, delivered with his trademark warmth and wit. He’ll recount his conversations with the country’s inhabitants, talk candidly about his encounters with officials, and give us a unique insight into a country entirely unlike any other he has visited, a country that inspires fear and fascination in equal measure.
Michael Palin has written and starred in numerous TV programmes and films, from Monty Python and Ripping Yarns to The Missionary and The Death of Stalin. He has also made several much-acclaimed travel documentaries, his journeys taking him to the North and South Poles, the Sahara Desert, the Himalayas, Eastern Europe, Brazil, and most recently North Korea. His books include accounts of his journeys, novels and several volumes of diaries. From 2009 to 2012 he was president of the Royal Geographical Society, and in 2013 he was made a BAFTA fellow.
Every ticket includes a copy of Michael Palin’s new book North Korea Journal (RRP £14.99)
