Sat 14 July | Festival Theatre
Duration: 2 hours (including 20 minute interval)
Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival presents the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra
Music arranged and orchestrated by Tommy Smith and Makoto Ozone and text adapted by Liz Lochhead and narrated by Tam Dean Burn.
“Ah’m a grandfaither masel noo. But I want to tell ye aw a story. This is the story aboot me, me and the Wolf”. So begins, Tommy Smith’s Scottish jazz version of Prokofiev’s classic Peter and the Wolf. Actor Tam Dean Burn will narrate new text, especially adapted by former Makar Liz Lochhead.
Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals, re-imagined by Makoto Ozone, evokes a dizzying, dazzling, zoological roundabout, with pianist Pete Johnstone traversing the classical and jazz genres, with the SNJO “at full power. Full of wit… and they swung. Hugely entertaining” (On The Beat).
There is also an hour-long performance of just Peter And The Wolf at 2pm, perfect for smaller children. Click here for the 2pm performance.
