All aboard the H.M.S. Pinafore for a production from The Edinburgh Gilbert & Sullivan Society! Following 45 years of vibrant productions at the King's Theatre, including our 2017 5* production of Ruddygore, EDGAS returns with one of Gilbert & Sullivan's most popular comic operas, H.M.S. Pinafore.

H.M.S. Pinafore is the comical tale of a love affair between sailor Ralph Rackstraw and his captain’s daughter, Josephine. Unfortunately Josephine’s father, Captain Corcoran, has loftier ambitions for his daughter and plans to marry her off to the insufferable but wealthy Sir Joseph Porter, First Lord of the Admiralty. When the captain discovers that the lovers are planning to elope, his attempts to thwart their plans lead to a shocking turning of the tables.

With famously jolly numbers including “We Sail the Ocean Blue”, “I’m Called Little Buttercup” and “He is an Englishman”, this fast-paced maritime caper is a treat for all the family.

H.M.S.Pinafore Children’s Matinee: Saturday 24 March at 2pm

Introduce your children to classical music through the daft and delightful world of Gilbert & Sullivan!

Come to the Upper Circle at the King’s Theatre on Saturday 24 March at 2pm for a pre-show talk and chance to meet the EDGAS* cast!  Prizes for the best seaside costumes!  Then at 2.30pm enjoy the silly story of how Josephine, the Captain’s daughter, has to choose between marrying pompous Sir Joseph Porter, First Lord of the Admiralty – or the man she really loves, Ralph Rackstraw, a humble sailor on board her father’s ship.  Meet Dick Deadeye and Little Buttercup, and tap your feet to the infectious music of H.M.S.Pinafore!  Show ends around 4.30pm.

Tickets in the Upper Circle cost £9 each for Primary School age children and accompanying adults from the Box Office 0131 529 600;

 * Ticket prices include a contribution to the Theatres Development Fund.  An 80p handling charge will be added if you ask us to post your tickets.
